Things To Do In The Loch Ness Area

Here are a few suggestions of places to explore on a circular tour of Loch Ness

Loch Ness is the largest of three lochs along The Great Glen,
approximately 23 miles in length and 1 mile width with an average depth of 600ft !

Loch Ness towards Fort Augustus

Head north from Invermoriston up the A82 for approx 9 miles, adjacent to Loch Ness

at Achnahannet is the John Cobb Monument (built following the tragedy of the water

speed record attempt in 1952 on Loch Ness) Continuing on the A82 you reach Urquhart

Castle, commanding extensive views of the Loch. A further 2 miles is the Village of

Drumnadrochit and the Loch Ness Monster Exhibitions and Visitors Centre. There are several restaurants and coffee shops within the village. As the A82 road takes a sharp

bend a pleasant divert can take you off to The A831 towards Glen Affric where

there are many riverside and forest walks including 'Plodda Falls' and 'Dog Falls'.

Alternatively continue from Drumnadrochit along The A82 to the City of Inverness

"The Capital of The Highlands" cross over the River Ness with Inverness Castle

to the right and Ben Wyvis mountain peak to the back left in the distance.

Follow the B862 for Dores and Foyers on the south side of Loch Ness, from Dores

beach you can look south along the length of the loch to the impressive mountain

landscape backdrop. The B852 now narrows to single track to Foyers, here a

pleasant short walk guides you to 'The Falls of Foyers'. Rejoin the B862 through

Whitebridge to Suidhe Viewpoint to enjoy a complete 360 degree view of the
mountains. Wild Deer Stags are a regular sight along this stretch. The road leads

down to Loch Tarff and winds through to Fort Augustus, here the Thomas Telford

Locks drop the Caledonian Canal to the southern entrance of Loch Ness, you now

view the impressive loch looking north. There are numerous cafes, restaurants,

pubs and shops adjacent to the canalside and a Visitors Centre.

Head back along the A82 to Invermoriston and Glenmoriston to return to 'Serendipity'
